Summer is in full swing! The days are long and the weather is beautiful, which can only mean one thing—it’s officially cookout season! We asked the Lobels to tell us about their favorite grilled meals for backyard entertaining.
Evan Lobel: “When I host a cookout I like to prepare a mixed grill, that way there’s something for everyone. My mixed grill usually includes a rack of lamb, some strip steaks, veal chops, and sausage. For a side I would grill up some veggies, like broccoli or sweet potatoes. I also like to grill a few pizzas as an appetizer.”
Stanley Lobel: “My favorite thing to eat at a cookout is a hamburger. I like a nice 16-ounce burger that’s crispy on the outside and almost rare on the inside. I always try to cook on charcoal because it brings out the great flavor of the burger. While my burgers are cooking I’ll take some fresh onion slices, wrap them in foil and place them in indirect heat on the grill. As the onions cook they become moist and a little crispy. They’re the perfect burger topping or side!”
Mark Lobel: “I always have burgers and hot dogs on my grill during a cookout. Marinated skirt steak is my current go-to steak for a cookout. One of my favorite sides to make on the grill is corn on the cob. I coat the corn in a little butter and kosher salt and then wrap in foil and grill on indirect heat. I also like grilling other vegetables, like peppers and onions. For a dessert on the grill, you can’t go wrong with grilled pineapple!”
David Lobel: “When I plan my cookout menu, I try to plan on doing all of the cooking outside so I can enjoy my guests and the beautiful weather. A great appetizer I like to make for cookouts is bacon-wrapped mini hot dogs and cheeseburger sliders. For an entree I’ll grill skirt steak or veal rib chops. My signature side dish is grilled bacon and onion potato salad. And no cookout would be complete without dessert! I like to grill up pineapple and banana slices.”
What do you most look forward to eating at a cookout? Have you ever had a grilled dessert? What are your favorite vegetables to grill?
