Cheeseburgers are loved for their beefiness, their affinity with a wide assortment of toppings, and their ooey-gooey goodness! Everyone, it seems, has a favorite and will most likely weigh in on the subject eagerly. In honor of National Cheeseburger Day–on September 18–we’ve rounded up our best cheeseburger recipes in one place for easy access. We’ve even included some recipes without cheese so you can add whatever cheese you’d like!
Sometimes simple is best, and you can’t go wrong with a classic like a cheddar cheese topped ground sirloin and ground chuck burger.
Adding a little complexity is our Blue Cheese Burgers with Grilled Onions recipe. You’ll need to grill the onions for about 15 minutes before topping your burgers. For an even more delicious option, be sure to melt the blue cheese a little before eating!
Try something different and instead of topping the burger with cheese, stuff it! The stuffing for this burger is a mix of dried mushrooms, scallions, and gorgonzola cheese. To stuff the burger, simply divide each burger portion into two flat patties. Next, lay your cheese stuffing on one patty, top with the second patty and pinch the edges to seal. It is very important that you pinch the edges for a tight seal to keep the cheese and juices inside!
Pairing cheese with this burger is easy. The salty-smoky flavors of bacon combined with the earthy character of mushrooms works well with a variety of cheeses. A classic combination is mushrooms and Swiss cheese. Don’t stop there–try your favorite for a new combination.
Not all burgers have to be made of beef, and this recipe is a prime example. Tempted to add cheese? Try Havarti cheese. The Havarti will compliment the sage and turkey so smoothly you’ll wonder why the recipe didn’t call for it in the first place!
Have you tried any of these recipes? Which are you going to try? What is your favorite? What is the best cheeseburger you’ve ever had? Do you prefer simple cheeseburgers to complex? What is the best cheese for a burger? Now–who’s hungry?
