Spicy Southwestern Pork-Turkey Burgers

Mixing ground turkey with ground pork produces a juicy, flavorful burger that is not overpowered by pork. By itself, pork is too strongly flavored for burgers.

    1 1/4 pounds ground turkey breast
    3/4 pound ground pork
    1/3 cup red peppers, chopped
    1/4 cup scallions, chopped
    1/4 cup cilantro, chopped
    1 Jalapeno, seeded and chopped
    1 1/2 tablespoons chili powder
    1 teaspoon cumin, ground
    1 teaspoon salt
    1/4 teaspoon black pepper, freshly ground
    vegetable oil cooking spray

Directions

    Combine the turkey, pork, peppers, scallions, cilantro, jalapeno, chili powder, cumin, salt, and pepper in a large bowl. Using your hands, mix well. Form into 6 patties. Refrigerate until ready to grill.
    Prepare a charcoal or gas grill. Lightly spray the grill rack with vegetable oil cooking spray. The coals should be hot.
    Grill the burgers for about 10 minutes. Turn and grill for 7 to 10 minutes longer for medium-well burgers. Serve with a salsa.
